Pt. MacDonnell Fishing Charters

The South East of Australia is renown for its quality of game fishing, especially towards the larger pelagic species of fish such as tuna and shark. Big game fishing always offers a distinctive level of excitement usually not found around metropolitan waters, with the ensuing hookup and fight which can take up to several hours, to the anticipation, joy and relief of a landing your well fought quarry.

The Continental Shelf is no exception when it comes to hunting large quarry, and fishing enthusiasts should take note of local charter services such as Pt MacDonnell Fishing Charters, to fulfill their fishing aspirations.

About Pt MacDonnell Fishing Charters ..........

PMFC has been around for several years now, offering a specialised service in fishing charters around the area of Pt MacDonnell and the Continental Shelf.

Jason Fulham, owner of PMFC and skipper of Apollo, offers a unique knowledge of the waters in and around Pt. MacDonnell and the Shelf, ensuring some degree of consistency of fish catches to those who use his services.

There are no guarantees in a good haul of fish. However, his knowledge of the locale and skill in boating and fishing definitely tips the scales in your favour in producing a good days excitement and a reasonable haul of fish.

Charter Specifics ..........

Apollo measures 28 foot length by 3m beam , V8 turbo diesel mercruiser, 270 horsepower with a maximum speed of 33 knots, and cruising speed of 17-20 knots. It has your standard mod cons such as GPS & Sounders, VHF, HF radios, Phone, and toilet facilities on board.

The requirements for passengers/fishers are a minimum of 6, with a maximum of 12 people for inshore fishing, and maximum of 8 people for offshore (deep sea fishing), for a full day trip. Price is $150 p/h full day and is subject to change, without notice. For other charters services and half day charters, please ring Jason.

Bait, lures, tackle, rods n reels are supplied, with no charge for lost sinkers, hooks. However, drop a rod over the side or lose a lure and you pay for it. Drinks, Tea & Coffee is also available, as well as Lunch, normally consisting of a variety of cut sandwiches, rolls and pizza. All recreational limits apply to the catch.

Just an example of a good days fishing, the photo on the left shows Andrew Sneath (read below - Accommodation), who was able to land this huge 63kg Mako, caught using a 10kg line, off Pt MacDonnell in May 2001. The rig used was a party balloon with a wire trace, using a whole squid as bait, 5 m below the surface.

Another example of a well deserved catch is this 22.5kg Hapuka (right photo), caught in 500m of water off the bottom. Again, bait used was a whole squid. A standard bottom rig consists of a 1.5 - 2kg metal sinker, a large hook and 4" glow sticks (Star-lite) for attracting the fish to the bait.

Accommodation ..........

Both Andrew and Gretel Sneath, close friends of Jason Fulham, offer to you the Breakwater Bungalow, a 3 bedroom house located on the sea-front with direct harbour views, situated at 64 Sea Parade, Pt MacDonnell SA. It can be made available as part of a package deal with Pt. MacDonnell Fishing Charters, or for family gatherings as part of a holiday.

The house comfortably sleeps seven people, and all linen, towels etc. are provided. Included in the price is also a light, continental breakfast. Rates are $85 per couple/ night and an extra $20 for each additional adult thereof.

Barbecue facilities are available across the road in a park, ideal for family gatherings with children, or for a bunch of guys with high levels of testosterone who simply want to eat meat !! Plans are afoot, in the near future, to accommodate a barbecue in the back premises of the house.

The house also has a fan-forced driven combustion heater, ideal for those wintery cold nights. Wood is provided. The lounge itself is comfortably decored and extremely spacious, allowing room required for either entertainment, or simply the luxury of extra space for small gatherings. Either way, the house offers the ideal environment for families wanting time away, or the perfect base camp for "male bonding" and a fishing charter.

Discounts also apply for people wishing to stay longer than 4 nights.
