Subject: Snapper Picture
G'day Tom
This snapper was caught by my wife, not a bad effort for her second snapper. Weight was 15 kg's.
Thanks for your reply from my photo. Wife is not in the picture as was to heavy for her to lift. Her previous fish was 7 kg and in the same area.....
The snapper was caught in the Point Lowly rip last September(2000) in the morning just after high tide, which I think is the most succesfull time for that area. The rig consisted of a single 6/0 hook on a 50cm trace above a running sinker, with a whole cutle fish head for bait.
Point Lowly is situated about 30 minutes drive out of Whyalla, the rip is a deep water channel approx 90 feet in places which runs around the eastern side of a rocky spit. It has two great beaches for swimming and in the summer time these are usually full. The main beach is patrolled by life guards. Port Bonython is situated here also, and u can pick up alot of snapper here alsoI t is also the home of some submarine sized king fish..
