Taken during our fishing stint in the Norther Territory, April 1999. Chinook caught this good size Coral Trout using a Slimey mackerel lure. When hooked, Coral Trout tend to head for the protection of the reef, so you have to be quick to take up the slack in such a fight.
It's prowess as a sport fish is second to non and uses its habitat well to defy the angler. A 1 metre 60lb metal trace is a must, as heavy mono will cut easily on coral and reef. When skinned and filleted, the meat is tender and white, and I would have to say that it is the BEST tasting meat I have ever had. Chinook would have to say that this fish was a joy to bring in. |
