Glenelg Fishing Charter

Glenelg - Submitted 3/12/2001 by John and Kaye (Glenelg Fishing Charter)
Hi Tom,

We had a exciting finish to November and a great start to December with the Snapper turning in on and another visit from a White Pointer just off Glenelg.

We have caught Snapper on all the known grounds with the early mornings being good on the 5kms grounds around the Glenelg Barge, Dredge, Glenelg Tyre reef and Southern outer area's.

We have caught Snapper on all the known grounds with the early mornings being good on the 5kms grounds around the Glenelg Barge, Dredge, Glenelg Tyre reef and Southern outer area's.

It's been quiet on the outer reefs with just the odd 4-6kgs Snapper and Slimy Mackerel everywhere.

The Pt. Stanvac Barges have been good for fish to 12kgs but the weather has restricted the opportunities to fish it.

Whiting have been scarce but I must add we have been spending most our time chasing the Snapper. Squid are still easy to catch around the Brighton, Seacliff, Hallet Cove area's from the weed line out to 3 kms offshore.

Garfish are just about anywhere you stop and throw some burley over but on the tyre reefs the Slimeys can sometimes be a nuisance.

The White Pointer was about 13ft. and came to visit us within 5 mins. of anchoring on a well known fishing and dive site aprox. 7 miles west of Glenelg.

This one was not as casual as the first one that attacked our charter vessel back in January this year although he wasn't as interested in our boat he was on the prowl diving down and moving around covering larger distances and staying down longer between sightings than the first.

We stayed for about 15 mins. then left. If anyone else spots it/or one, let us know, this one had very distinct parallel scratches just above and behind it's right eye, big fins and big teeth !

Cheers
John
