Hi Tom,
My wife and I were on KI from 6/4/01 to 8/4/01 for holiday. We spent the first night at West Bay which is in Flinders Chase NP. Great protected beach, I managed to get 4 or 5 nice salmon trout (using cockles and squid) in an hour or so of fishing.
The next morning I fished from the rocks and caught a bunch of rock cod (wrasses) and more salmon trout (again using cockles and squid). We eventually ended up in Kingscote that night so first thing Sunday morning I fished the jetty for some big squid, 3 small trevally and 1 kg salmon.
Later that arvo we ventured over to De estree's Bay and set-up camp at Wrecker's beach. This place was beautiful and a fishing smorgasbord.
When we first got there a few locals were catching large salmon at the North section of the beach until a couple of seals came in a scared the school away. I set up a bit further down the beach and caught a few nice mullet on cockles.
Later that evening, right before sunset, I waded in the shallows and casted a grubtail jig. That's when I caught the nice snook and a decent sized trevally.
The following morning I gave it a go with a chrome slice and lost an even larger snook that I fought for at least 10 minutes (must have been a big snook). Overall it was a great trip (the weather was fantastic), I just wish I had had more time to fish as most of the trip was spent sight seeing with my wife.
cheers,
Sanford

Hi,
This is a snook I caught wading Wrecker's beach on KI last month. I also caught a 1 kilo trevally in the same session.
cheers,
Sanford
