The Columba Six
November the 28th, 2004 was to be a memorable day for a group of young lads, all of whom hold a passionate fixation for the art of recreational angling, and the thrill of a hookup and fight with our fish species off the Adelaide Shores.
The event was also to signify my son, David Poczman's 15th birthday, and what better way to celebrate this day than with a fishing charter with some of his close mates.
Predominantly, David Clayfield from WHY NOT Fishing Charters, with assistance from John Winslet from John Winslet Fishing Charter & Tuition provided a great day's outing for both young and old, with the excitement for most lads of being on a boat for the first time, and the thrill of hooking onto fish that take line.
We traversed to numerous locations off the shores of Adelaide, namely the Squid Pro Ground off Hallet Cove, Somerton Reef, Clarries Ground and the Glenelg Blocks. Each site offered a different species to target for, ranging from Squid, Slimey Mackerel, Warehou, Leather Jackets & Aussie Salmon.
The thumbnails below tell the story of how the day evolved, how each lad triumphed in realising his expectations of the day, and how I'm sure this trip will be remembered by each one for years to come.
Special thanks must be given to David Clayfield from WHY NOT Fishing Charters in providing such a professional service and memorable event for the lads. I suspect also that Dave played some part in accomodating us with fine weather as well !
As for John Winslet, it is difficult for one to fathom the concept of thanking a person who gets paid to go fishing, with his wife's blessing, but I will anyway - thanks mate (I'm a cheeky sod !)
